Advisor, head to head

Briefi vs TaxDome

These two overlap on the client portal and engagement letters, and many firms could use both. TaxDome describes itself as the operating system for a practice: client portal, proposals and engagement letters, invoicing and payments, and workflows in one product. Briefi does not run your firm’s work or take payments. It prepares and writes up the client meeting, signs the engagement letter with its fee schedule, collects documents and keeps the register of each client’s entities. If you want one product to run the practice, look at TaxDome. If your gap is the client conversation, look at Briefi.

TaxDome runs the practice. Briefi runs the client conversation. TaxDome’s pages we read describe no meeting tools and do not name Xero, but a page that does not mention something is not proof it is absent, so those are not scored. A row appears only where TaxDome’s own pages say something we could check.

Where TaxDome wins

When TaxDome is the better choice

If any of these decides it for you, TaxDome is likely the better fit today.

Breadth

One product for the whole practice

TaxDome describes itself as practice management for tax, bookkeeping and accounting firms, with portal, workflows, billing and a branded mobile app available as an add-on. Briefi is not a job or workflow manager for your team.12

Payments

Billing and payments with the letter

TaxDome lists invoicing and Stripe payments, with documents locked to invoices. Briefi takes no payments from your clients.21

Portal

A portal on every plan

TaxDome includes the client portal on all plans. Briefi’s portal is on the Advisor plans and starts switched off.2

Assurance

Published security attestations

TaxDome’s security page states SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and other certifications and attestations.3

Where Briefi is different

The meeting, the letter and the register on one record.

Briefi was built for practices that meet the same families for years. It does not replace a practice management system. It covers what happens with the client around it.

  • Meetings prepared and written upMeetings

A brief generated before you meet, a recap after with decisions and actions that have an owner, and a follow-up drafted for you to check and send from your own mailbox.

  • Engagement letters with the fee schedule insideSign

The fee schedule is part of what is signed, and the signed PDF carries a certificate page with names, times and a SHA-256 digest. Initials carry forward on an amendment.

  • Document requestsAdvisor

Ask a client for the year’s records, see what has come back and chase the rest. Your team accepts or waives each file.

  • Every entity a family group controlsAdvisor

A register of the companies, trusts and super funds a family group controls, with the lodgements each owes. It never holds a tax file number.

Briefi’s identity checks are not available yet, and it does not take payments from your clients. It has no direct connection to TaxDome; a client list can come across from an export, or through the API.

Pricing

Questions

Briefi and TaxDome, asked often

Can Briefi replace TaxDome?

No, and it is not meant to. TaxDome runs the practice, including billing and payments. Briefi handles the client meeting, signing, document requests and the entity register.

Can we use both?

Yes. Many firms could use TaxDome to run the work and Briefi for the client conversation. There is no direct connection between them, so a client list comes across from an export or through the API.

Does Briefi have a client portal?

Yes, on the Advisor plans. It is off by default for each workspace until you switch it on.

Does Briefi take payments?

No. Briefi signs the engagement letter and keeps the fee schedule in it, but does not invoice or collect from your clients.

Where is my clients’ data stored?

In Briefi, stored in Sydney. Some processing uses providers overseas. Sensitive content is encrypted with a key held for your workspace. The Security page lists the providers and where they are.
