FYI Docs and Briefi are built for different halves of an accounting practice, and a firm could reasonably keep both. FYI describes itself as a platform that automates document and practice management, made by accountants for accountants, and it plugs into the practice and tax systems Australian firms already run. Briefi covers the time spent with the client: the meeting, the engagement letter signed inside Briefi, the request for the year’s records and the register of what a family group controls. If the pain is paperwork scattered across inboxes and folders, start with FYI. If the pain is what was agreed in the room and who owes what afterwards, start with Briefi.

FYI files and automates the paperwork. Briefi runs the conversation with the client. A page that is silent about a feature does not show the feature is missing, so the unscored rows above are not a mark against FYI. Briefi’s tick under signing is for signing inside Briefi; FYI’s route is a signing service you already pay for.
One client, start to finish
One client, start to finish
A new client signs on and stays for the compliance cycle. The steps below are the same job in each product. FYI’s cells say only what its own pages, as read on 16 October 2026, say.
1
Send the engagement letter
FYI
Signing is by integration. The page for its DocuSign link says that clicking Create takes you straight to the envelope inside DocuSign.54
Briefi
The letter is drafted in Briefi from your own wording, a template or an imported Word or PDF file, and goes to the client to sign in Briefi without a second service.
2
Follow the signature
FYI
When the client signs, the status in FYI moves from Pending Client Signature to Client Signed.5
Briefi
The signed PDF is filed to the client record with a certificate page that lists the signer, the device and the times.
3
Hold the first planning meeting
FYI
The pages we read describe no meeting recording, notes or recap.12
Briefi
A brief is ready before the call. Afterwards the recap lists decisions and actions with an owner, and the follow-up is drafted in Briefi for you to edit, then sent from your own mailbox.
4
Gather the year’s records
FYI
The entry tier lists document management, email auto-filing and client workspaces, which suit the filing end of this step.2
Briefi
A request goes to the client, each file that returns is accepted or waived by your team, and what is still missing stays visible.
5
Run the job
FYI
Job management and task management are in the entry tier, workflows arrive with Pro, and time and billing with Elite.2
Briefi
Briefi does not schedule your team’s jobs. The actions from each meeting sit on the register with an owner, beside the lodgements each entity owes.
Where FYI wins
When FYI is the better choice
If one of these decides it, FYI is probably the stronger choice today.
Documents
Filing documents and email at volume
FYI’s entry tier lists document management, email auto-filing, task management, client workspaces and job management. Briefi keeps the documents a client sends you on their record but is not a filing system for the whole practice.2
Connections
A practice system that syncs
FYI lists sync with Xero Practice Manager, MYOB, GreatSoft, APS, CCH and IRIS, plus practice apps such as Ignition and Content Snare. If your jobs and time live in one of those, FYI meets them where they are.4
Assurance
ISO 27001 and ATO standing, stated on the page
FYI’s security page says it is ISO 27001:2022 certified, a digital service provider to the ATO, and that it has put the Essential Eight in place with a partner. It also keeps backups for a month.3
Upward path
Time, billing and capacity on its top tier
The Elite tier adds time and billing, reports, employee management, capacity planning and a custom form builder. Briefi does not track time or bill for it.2
Where Briefi is different
What the paperwork cannot record.
A filed document tells you what arrived. It does not tell you what the client said they would do. Briefi is built for that second record.
The meeting as the source of the workMeetings
Briefi writes a brief on what the client still owes and what falls due before you meet. The recap names each decision and who owns each action, and the follow-up sits in Briefi as a draft until you send it from your own mailbox.
The letter, the fee schedule and the signature togetherSign
The fee schedule is inside what the client signs, so a changed fee returns as an amendment and the client initials only what moved. Each signer uses their own link, or all sign on one device, and a partner countersigns.
Every entity the family controlsAdvisor
The companies, trusts and super funds of one family group are listed together with each lodgement owed. No tax file number is stored in the register.
Identity checks are not available in Briefi yet, and Briefi does not take payments from your clients today. More connections are rolling out progressively; today it reads Google, Microsoft 365 and CalDAV calendars and pushes to ten CRMs, and on the Advisor plans its public API lets other tools read Briefi’s meetings and contacts.
How the whole record fits together is on the Advisor page.
Pricing
Pricing compared
FYI publishes a price for each user and a minimum number of users. Briefi charges by the plan, and the pricing page sets out what each plan holds. FYI says its subscription covers the FYI system only, with migration, onboarding and consulting quoted separately.

Questions
Briefi and FYI, asked often
Does Briefi do what FYI does?
No. FYI files documents and emails and automates practice work around them. Briefi handles the meeting, the signing, requests for records and the entity register.
Could a firm run both?
Yes, and it fits: FYI holds the practice paperwork and Briefi holds the client conversation. Neither has a built-in link to the other yet. Briefi’s public API lets another tool read its contacts and meetings, and contacts in Briefi come from calendar attendees or are added by hand.
How does signing differ?
FYI’s signing runs through DocuSign, Adobe Sign, Annature or FuseSign, each with its own account. In Briefi the letter, the fee schedule and the signature are on one record.
Where does Briefi keep client data?
In Sydney. Some processing, such as transcription and drafting, uses providers overseas, and the Security page lists each one. Sensitive text in a workspace is encrypted with a key held for that workspace.
Does Briefi connect to the practice systems FYI lists?
More connections are rolling out progressively. Today Briefi connects to Google, Microsoft 365 and CalDAV calendars and pushes to ten CRMs, and its public API lets another tool read Briefi’s meetings and contacts. There is no built-in connection to Xero Practice Manager or MYOB.
