Advisor, head to head

Briefi vs Brieff

Brieff is close to Briefi for accounting firms. Both prepare you for an advisory meeting, take the notes and track the actions. Brieff is purpose-built for accounting advisory, connects to Xero Practice Manager, Karbon and FYI, and prices by client with your whole team included. Briefi goes further around the meeting: engagement letters with fee schedules signed online, document requests, a register of every entity a family group controls, and follow-ups sent from your own mailbox. If your practice systems are the deciding factor, look at Brieff first.

Briefi also signs engagement letters, collects documents and keeps an entity register. Brieff’s pages describe none of those, but a page that does not mention something is not proof it is absent, so they are not scored here. A row appears only where Brieff’s own pages say something we could check.

Where Brieff wins

When Brieff is the better choice

If any of these decides it for you, Brieff is likely the better fit today.

Integrations

Connections to your accounting systems

Brieff lists Xero Practice Manager, Karbon and FYI. Briefi has no direct connection to any of them: you bring clients in from an export, or send them through the API.1

Pricing

A price by client, with the team included

Brieff prices by client rather than by user, so adding staff does not add cost. If you have many advisers and a modest client list, that can come out lower than a monthly price for each user.1

Focus

Built only for accounting advisory

Brieff describes itself as an advisory delivery platform for accounting firms, from solo advisers to multi-partner firms. Briefi serves several professions, and its accounting pack is one of them.13

Check-ins

Client check-ins with no login

Brieff sends check-ins by email, SMS or its mobile app and the client does not need an account. It builds the preparation from the answers.1

Where Briefi is different

The meeting is one step in the client’s file.

Briefi was built for practices that meet the same families for years. The meeting, the paperwork and the register of what each entity owes sit on one record.

  • Engagement letters with the fee schedule insideSign

Send an engagement letter in your own wording. The fee schedule is part of what is signed, and the signed PDF carries a certificate page with names, times and a SHA-256 digest.

  • Document requestsAdvisor

Ask the client for the year’s records, track what has come back and chase what has not, before the meeting.

  • Every entity a family group controlsAdvisor

A register of the companies, trusts and super funds in a family group, with the lodgements each owes and proposed due dates your team can change. It never holds a tax file number.

  • Follow-ups from your own mailboxMeetings

A follow-up drafted for you to check, sent from your Gmail, Microsoft 365 or SMTP mailbox, so the reply lands where you already work.

  • A client portalAdvisor

An optional portal, off until you switch it on for the workspace, on the Advisor plans.

Briefi’s identity checks are not available yet, and it does not take payments from your clients.

Questions

Briefi and Brieff, asked often

Does Briefi connect to Xero Practice Manager, Karbon or FYI?

No. You can bring a client list across from an export, up to 2,000 entities a file, and send entities and lodgement status through the API. If a direct connection to those systems is a must, Brieff lists them.

Can we use both?

Yes. Nothing stops a firm running its advisory meetings in one tool and sending engagement letters and document requests from the other, though most firms will want one place for the meeting and the paperwork.

Where is my clients’ data stored?

In Briefi, stored in Sydney. Some processing uses providers overseas. Sensitive content is encrypted with a key held for your workspace. The Security page lists the providers and where they are. For Brieff, see its security page.

Does Briefi record in-person meetings?

Yes. A face-to-face recorder is available as well as capture for Zoom, Teams and Google Meet.

How is Briefi priced for a firm?

By the month for each user, shown on the pricing page. Each Advisor plan includes an allowance of clients on file and clients active each month, and a growing book can move up a plan or, on some plans, add a client bundle.
